VIDEO CONTENT | Episode #1 of Business Basics For Photographers

I won't take up too much of your time in text today, but I wanted to share this extremely valuable chunk of content with you. I recently started a video series detailing the ins and outs of beginning a photography business and essentially, JUST GET STARTED! The best phrase I've heard regarding motivation to just begin comes from Lara Casey of Cultivate What Matters. Paraphrased, she says, "Just begin today. One year from now, you'll be so glad you did."

The McCook Family | Portraits

The McCook Family | Portraits

I am so very thrilled to share the McCook Family's portraits today! Not only were they so CUTE, but so easy to work with! We hustled big time to beat the rain but you'd have no idea it was dreary and icky out! What a sweet time for everyone! It was nice to see folks from my hometown since I don't see very many of them as often due to my move two years ago. The best thing is seeing people you care about when you haven't seen them in a while. Amanda was a majorette in high school (like me!) and helped choreograph some of our routines back in my high school years. Carrigan, their beautiful oldest daughter was in my Internship class way back when she was in 2nd grade! Now the teen years are upon us! YIKES! Camdyn is getting ready to go into 5th grade, and was taught 4th by my aunt who is also a teacher. They are growing up way too fast! YOWZA!! Time slow down!

Can You Tell The Difference Between An Entry Level Camera vs. Professional Grade Camera?

Can You Tell The Difference Between An Entry Level Camera vs. Professional Grade Camera?

So, photography can be expensive, am I right? Yes. I am. If you've ever researched gear and the works out of a desire to start your own business or pursue it as a hobby, you quickly closed that computer screen down and put your dream on the shelf. You saw that a "legit" business requires around $10,000 worth of gear and that's just the beginning. You have kids, you have the mortgage, you have vacation, family plans and dreams, and well, $10,000 for what could at best be a very expensive hobby just doesn't seem worth it.

Taylor + Mason | Intimate Resort Wedding at Captain Hiram's

Taylor + Mason | Intimate Resort Wedding at Captain Hiram's

Taylor and Mason's wedding was one of the sweetest I've attended yet. It reminded me of my own wedding in the desire to be married without the fanfare or need to be noticed by others. Their ceremony was simple and sweet, their party a PARTY, I TELL YOU. It was so much fun! From the beginning, I knew they were the perfect KTP couple because they cared not only about my work but about me, just like I cared about them. At our very first meeting, they couldn't say enough thank you's and stressed how much it meant to them that even if I was done working/snapping photos, I should stay and celebrate with them. I danced the night away on the dance floor, and had an amazing dinner! Which, by the way....y'all. This dream couple went the extra mile to check and see if I had received my dinner yet, and even went to the kitchen themselves to remind the chef that I had a plate reserved and should be served.

Late Spring Under The Mango Tree

Late Spring Under The Mango Tree

Hi, everyone! How are you? It has been HOT here in South FL! The past few days have been humid and hot, and all photoshoot fun has to be done before the sun comes up or while it goes down because it bakes here pretty quick!

So, yesterday, I was taking the pets for a walk and as I walked by my house to start the journey, I spotted a framing/composition idea while looking at our mango tree and the ideas started flowing from there! I quickly texted my little group of go-to models and set up a shoot for early this morning.

They were the first folks to entrust me with their memories when I first started this little business of mine. I felt so honored.

Anna and Anthony | Organic Lakeside Wedding

Anna and Anthony | Organic Lakeside Wedding

I am so thrilled that Anna and Anthony are finally married! They met while working in the same building complex and kept their relationship a secret for the first few months...how romantic! I can't speak high enough of Lakeland, their city in which they got married! All three of their venues- the getting ready hotel, church where they were married, and reception hall- were all around a gorgeous lake named Lake Morton! I felt so alive!

Anna | Davis Island Heirloom Bridals

Anna | Davis Island Heirloom Bridals

As with any session I book, there's a little story. (hehe) We trekked over to Davis Island for Anna's bridals, and had plenty of ideas. We picked out our location but once we got there, things didn't turn out quite like we had anticipated. Our select building wasn't a resort or club of any sort, it was just a cute old folks retirement complex. We wanted to remain respectful of the building and kept asking around for the office but all the people there kept telling us there was no office! Plus, it didn't look exactly like some of the images we saw online (we actually couldn't find the exact building we were looking for!). So we moved on. We came upon this lovely apartment complex with the most stunning exterior. We knew we just HAD to have it! As if by divine intervention, things started falling into place. Every backdrop you see was within 10 feet of each other as the front of the building. Then, there was the back of the building with a pool, view of the a yacht club, and the prettiest architecture ever. You wouldn't even know we weren't in Italy!

My Favorite Educational Resources For Photographers And Artists

My Favorite Educational Resources For Photographers And Artists

It's no secret that I have a heart for newbs. Like, seriously. I want to help and support young business owners and entrepreneurs the best way I can. It takes a lot of hard work that only you can do, but it makes no sense to go it alone, does it? So along that same vein, I have to stress the importance of EDUCATION. I actually believe that you should never stop learning as a photographer or artist and that investing in education is one of the best investments you can make in yourself. Learn, learn, learn, soak, soak, soak in as much as you can when you first start and throughout your career!

Mr. & Mrs. Willis | St. Augustine Anniversary Portraits On Film

Mr. & Mrs. Willis | St. Augustine Anniversary Portraits On Film

I am so excited to share this session! I've known Ashley since high school, and we discovered that Mark and my husband Joshua played football together in middle school, and knew each other after all! We traipsed around St. Augustine, getting a little lost, changing behind sheets in people's front yards (while a tour carriage was going by!", and laughing our heads off! All we could think about was how the driver could have narrated like so: "And on your right, you will see a lady changing behind a sheet!" HA! We had a wonderful time and I'm so happy they trusted me with a film camera in hand, which takes a lot of bravery! It sure did pay off!

The Taylor Family | Washington Oaks Family Session

The Taylor Family | Washington Oaks Family Session

I can't say enough about the Taylor family and our time together. This little family is so genuine, so filled with gratitude, humility, and STYLE that I felt to refreshed and peaceful after our shoot. Each family member was so unique and memorable I just squealed at each moment I grabbed because I knew I wanted to do them justice. In between the moments on camera there were fabulous non-camera moments such as little games of catch, someone getting mooned, and glimpses of 3 going on 13. They're so cute, ya'll. I loved it!

Meara Lynn & Drew | Boneyard Beach Engagement Session

Meara Lynn & Drew | Boneyard Beach Engagement Session

I am so thrilled to have this sweet couple's engagement session up today! There were a few things that I LOVED about this shoot:

  1. It was at a driftwood beach, which I have never photographed before!

  2. Meara and Drew were TROOPERS, as the beach location was a bit of a hike, jump, and scale-a-mountain away from the start point. They walked all the way there and back in their nice clothes! :D

  3. Terrible storms were predicted for the day, but they receded just for us and left a beautifully overcast sky to shoot under! The light was even and the temperature was pleasant, making for a fun and enjoyable shoot.
