As 2019 Comes To A Close

Gosh, I can’t believe 2019 is almost over! It will be 2020 in less than 100 days! I’m sitting with a cup of coffee in hand and I find myself looking at my wedding portfolio so far and unexpectedly thinking about how far I’ve come. I remember prepping for my first wedding like yesterday. I shot my last wedding of 2019 this past Saturday and by default, I’m reflecting on the time passed. Here are a few things I’ve learned since being the girl behind the camera that hot July day in 2017.

  1. You can’t do it all and do it well. (Second shooters are my life-saver. Ya’ll need to get one if ya don’t have one.)

  2. Bring a change of shoes. :D It’s so refreshing to wiggle your toes into something different after about 5 or so hours.

  3. 10 hour wedding days are my sweet spot. I feel so good and my body hurts WAY less. I’ve done 4 hour weddings, 8 hour weddings, and 10 hour weddings, and have never felt SO good as I do at the end of a 10 hour wedding day. Sounds crazy, right?!

  4. There is no such thing as too much communication. (with the bride and groom, that is.)

  5. It’s okay to give yourself room to grow. Big adjustments in your business/shooting don’t happen overnight. So the pressure is off about shooting a Martha wedding your first go-around. :)

  6. Make wise investments. Education and gear/tools you need to complete today’s work well are important in my opinion. Outside of the business, invest in yourself. It’s okay to not work yourself to death and constantly wear a badge of exhaustion. Really. It’s okay.

  7. Learn the hard things like business numbers early on. It will pay off in the end. No pun intended. :)

  8. Opportunities will come. :)

  9. You don’t need thousands of dollars of gear to do a good, impactful job today.

  10. A smile is the best tool you can bring to a wedding. :D

As the year comes to a close, I’m also re-evaluating goals and finishing strong! This year in business has been slightly different than the last but I’m so very glad for the support of Joshua, my family, and friends as I continue in this next year with bright eyes and a heart of gratitude. Thank you for joining me this far, friends! <3
