Today I'm reporting from day 3 or 4 of dark, rainy, stormy, WINDY weather. I've been barricaded inside for the past few days and while there are moments that I love the wind and rain (like when I'm falling asleep and waking up), there comes a point when I need, no NEEEEEDDDDD some sunshine and fresh air! I think I have 12 inch long fingernails, protruding eyeballs and an ever growing humpback......

It suits the occasion since today I'm sharing an exciting post! Last week I shared some of the frames from my first official roll of Portra 400. I call it official since they were taken on a manual camera and developed professionally by TheFINDLab. They surpassed anything I could have ever imagined when I was taking them. There is this perfect dance between softness and focus that feeds my soul. A quality that digital can't recreate.

During Hurricane Irma, my husband, pets and I stayed with our good friends. We had been barricaded inside a boarded up, dark (but SAFE) house for a few days and we were going crazy! Both then and today, I feel a bit like Laura Ingalls Wilder who braved many long Minnesota winters, and was barricaded in much like us but for MUCH long periods of time.

After the hurricane had left us, the winds were still kicking, but my model and I decided to kick back and get outside for some air! I had brought along my Canon EOS Elan IIe and my film in hopes that I'd get to use it some way or another. I had already used about half of the roll for a hybrid newborn lifestyle shoot (film + digital) a few weeks before. I was eager to finish the roll and get it sent out!

Needless to say, they came back beautiful. I did little to no metering at all, except with the dial inside the viewfinder, so I was pleased to see that knocking the exposure up a stop or two did some really beautiful things. I just love film. I'm officially hooked. I can't go back to just digital now. Although I adore my Mark IV and can see myself shooting with it for the rest of my life, I also can see myself shooting film for the rest of my life. Here we go.
